The UK is open for business. That’s the simple message from the Department for International Trade (‘DIT’) established to help businesses to set up in and trade with the UK. Ranked in the top five on the United Nations’ global innovation index and with the lowest business tax rates of any country in the G20, the UK is well placed to attract businesses from across the globe.
Whilst the UK corporate governance code and other regulations are designed to promote business entrepreneurialism and growth; setting up a new business, or subsidiary, in a new country can pose regulatory challenges. With this in mind, the Department for International Trade has launched the UK Investment Support Directory, described by the Director General for Investment, Mark Slaughter, as “a smart, new digital tool that innovatively connects investors to private sector expertise.”
The directory provides access to business specialists across the UK who have the skills and expertise to help overseas businesses to set up or expand in the UK. Covering the full range of business requirements from accounting and legal to business support, publicity and human resources, the business specialists listed within the directory can help incoming businesses to meet their legal and regulatory requirements.
Those using the new directory to identify business specialists which are able to meet their needs are able to book a free initial one hour consultation. The online directory also provides access to a number of guides which provide a quick overview to setting up and running a business in the UK. Whilst these guides will not answer every question they can act as a trigger to help potential company owners to identify in which specialist areas they would particularly benefit from receiving further guidance.
Commenting on the launch of the directory Graham Stuart MP, the Minister for Investment, said: “We hope this new Directory will be an invaluable resource for investors thinking of setting up operations in the UK.”
