November 22, 2011 Company Start-Ups on the Increase
Despite the recent economic turmoil, enquiries from people looking to incorporate a new business have risen according to Business Gateway, a government advice centre.
In the second quarter of 2011-12, Business Gateway said it was contacted by 11,305 people, up 16% on the previous year’s 9,727 enquiries. A 54% rise was recorded in queries from companies contacting the service for the first time.
Whilst commenting on the figures, Finance Secretary John Swinney said: “The Scottish Government and its enterprise agencies are working hard to retain Scotland’s position as the most supportive environment for business in the UK.
This trend is in-line with that reported by Companies House which has seen a steady increase in the number of new companies incorporated over the last few years. In 2010/11 401,000 companies were incorporated compared to 362,000 in 2009/10 and 330,000 the year before.
